The General Directorate of Health (DGS) has confirmed the death of an elderly man from hemorrhagic fever in Bragança.
The man, who was in his 80s, was admitted to the Bragança Hospital on Tuesday with symptoms of fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. He died on Wednesday morning.
The DGS is investigating the cause of the man's death, but it is believed that he may have contracted the fever from a tick bite.
Hemorrhagic fever is a serious illness that can be caused by a number of different viruses. Symptoms of hemorrhagic fever include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding from the gums and nose.
There is no specific treatment for hemorrhagic fever, but supportive care can help to improve the chances of survival.
