4, 4, 6, 6, 6, 4: Travis Head Equals Ricky Ponting, Mitchell Marsh's Record During 1st T20I vs England

Head emulates Ponting, Marsh creates history as Australia win by eight runs

Travis Head equaled Ricky Ponting's record and Mitchell Marsh made history during Australia's thrilling win against England in the first T20I in Perth.

Head's blistering innings of 69 from 39 balls included three fours and five sixes, allowing him to match Ponting's feat of hitting three consecutive sixes in a T20I for Australia. Marsh's unbeaten 36 off 26 deliveries was also significant, as he became the first Australian player to score over 30 runs without being dismissed in five consecutive T20Is.

Australia's total of 162/6 proved to be just enough, as England fell short by eight runs despite a valiant effort from Dawid Malan, who scored 82 off 49 balls.

The two teams will meet again in the second T20I on Sunday in Canberra, with Australia looking to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Head's heroics lead Australia to victory

Head was in devastating form from the outset, taking advantage of some loose bowling from England's bowlers to race to his half-century in just 28 balls.

He reached his three consecutive sixes in the 14th over, off the bowling of Mark Wood, to equal Ponting's record. Head's innings came to an end in the next over, when he was caught by Jos Buttler off the bowling of Chris Jordan.

Despite Head's departure, Australia continued to score at a rapid pace, with Marsh and Marcus Stoinis (22 off 15 balls) adding 47 runs for the fifth wicket.

Marsh keeps his record-breaking run going

Marsh has been in excellent form for Australia in recent months, and he continued that form in Perth.

He hit four fours and a six in his unbeaten innings, and he also played a key role in Australia's bowling effort, taking 1/27 from his four overs.

Marsh's performance helped Australia to secure a crucial victory, and he will be looking to continue his good form in the remaining matches of the series.

England fall short despite Malan's heroics

England made a valiant effort to chase down Australia's total, with Malan leading the way with a superb innings of 82.

However, they were unable to keep up with the required run rate, and they eventually fell short by eight runs.

Chris Jordan was the pick of the England bowlers, taking 3/23 from his four overs, but he was unable to prevent Australia from securing the victory.
